How to Create and Optimize Your Google Business Profile

Jun 29, 2018 9:49:59 AM / by Mike Chen

What could be more beneficial to a young local business than a service that broadcasts your attraction to a local market for free?

Google offers a service that does just that. If you are looking to set up an eye-catching online presence on the most popular search engine in the world, Google My Business (GMB) is the tool you are looking for.

Here's how to create and use your Google business profile, and better yet, how to make it work for you.

Why Use GMB?

Google My Business is a free service that helps businesses manage their online presence through the Google search engine. For businesses that are looking for exposure in their local market, this is the perfect tool.

This tool increases your chances of showing up in Google's Local Pack, Local Finder, Google Maps, and the other growing features Google has to offer.

Also, did we mention it's free?

How to Create a GMB Profile

First, google your business. Make sure your business doesn't already have a listing. If your business has been around the block for a few years, you probably already have one. Now all you have to do is claim it.

Now you can fill out the information about your business. It will ask for your phone number, your address, the business hours, and what payments you accept.

But don't be like the majority of local businesses that create the GMB listing and forget it exists. There are so many other features you can use to make your Google My Business local listing work for you.

How to Optimise your Google Business Profile

1) Make sure you complete all of the information Google asks for.

This seems pretty self-explanatory, but all of this information is important. Your phone number, address, and other business information help your potential customers locate and contact you. Make it easy for them!

2) Check your GMB frequently.

Anyone can suggest a change to your business listing. Customers, internet trolls, or even your competitors. When they click on your Google My Business listing, they can see a link where they can suggest an edit.

Clicking on this link takes them to a page where they can edit your Google Business listing. They can make a wide variety of changes to your listing, like your name, address, hours, phone, website, or even the category of business you run.

That's why it's so important you check your GMB listing frequently.

3) GMB Posts

Google allows for a few eye-catching, fun things along with your GMB Profile. You can add a Call to Action, some links, or even a photo. These things can have an impact on your ratings!

You can feature new products, create sale events, or add a description of your latest blog posts.

To get started with Posts, log in to your dashboard, and the option will be on the left-hand side.

4) Booking Button

If you are an attraction that offers appointment-based services, you can include a booking button on your MBA. This is an eye-catching feature that can help your attraction stand out.

If you use integrated scheduling software, people can book appointments from google. This makes it so easy for customers to book with you, eliminating the chances that after they find your phone number, they keep searching for other places.

5) Messaging

Customers can send you text messages through the GMB listing. There is even an app set up to allow them to contact you without using your personal phone.

This feature is only available to those using a mobile browser.

6) Know This Place?

Google also offers people an option to answer a few questions about your business. They can decline questions they don't know the answer to.

This includes your competitors too, but Google maintains that this is a helpful tool to help grow the community and learn new search strategies.

7) Reviews

Online reviews show up next to your listing in Google Maps and your business' Knowledge Panel when searched. These reviews can help your attraction stand out. 97% of consumers read online reviews for local attractions before choosing to stop there.

Make sure that you follow the policies and guidelines for asking your customers for reviews because otherwise, they will remove them.

Respond to those reviews! It shows customers that you care and if you resolve a negative reviewer's issues, you might earn yourself a better star rating.

Ready to Go

It's relatively simple to create and use your GMB profile to your advantage. As long as you fill out your information completely and check back on your Google listing often to ensure that the information is accurate, the profile should work to your advantage!
